Bullet Train to Naples, Italy

This morning our group took the high speed train from Rome to Naples . We were quite proud of ourselves having figured out how to take the metro to the train station and then managing to get on the right train in the right direction!

Once in Naples, our first stop was the capua colosseum ( second largest after the colosseum in Rome) from which hailed Spartacus who led the gladiator revolt from in 73-71 BC. The colosseum was still active here when Paul landed at the port of Puteoli. Puteoli still has extensive remains of a Flavian amphitheater built in 1 AD. There is also a Roman forum excavation in Puteoli near the port. All of this is against the looming backdrop of Mount Vesuvius.

Sitting right near the water at the Puteoli port is a church with a large mosaic and inscription dedicated to Paul of Tarsus.

The city of Naples and the sea are gorgeous and we can’t wait to explore more tomorrow!

Through out the trip we have again been blessed by very small crowds and in many places no waiting or being almost alone. Rome and Naples are large busy cities, but typically traffic is unimaginable and access to sites and restaurants limited with long waits.

In Italy they are very careful with Covid precautions and we feel safe and healthy.
