Haran #2
Harran pictures part 2. Surprised by response to Haran pictures i found more of that day. Haran is just 8 miles north of the Syrian border. Abraham’s father Terah immigrated from Ur to Harran. Abraham lived in Harran, married Sarah there, and then was called by God to move to the promised land.
Today the archeological site at Harran has material from 1950 BC all the through the Hittites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Alexander the Great, the Romans, theTurks etc etc.
It is a very open almost stark area, as we kind of suspected. The sites are open fields and only partially exposed layers of history are visible. The main area we were not allowed to enter (see fence, Barb wire and sign). The Bee Hive Houses are more recent.
