Iconostases!!

We saw these all over Greece!!! Below are pictures of iconostases or kandilakia. “They are the Greek version of a wayside shrine, but with a history as old as the Greek world itself. Simply put, they are small boxlike shrines that usually resemble a miniature church located on the side of the road at a spot where an accident possibly had occurred.”

We are not sure about the accident part?! We saw them far off the road at times or next to part of the road that we not dangerous. Margery would comment as she was driving around a very tight turn that there should be iconostases around this corner.

We also saw stores that sold them - huge assortments of them.

Inside some were very simple and others were detailed to look like small churches. Some had pictures or icons of saints or religious figures, most had candles, some writing (we could not read).

We ended up kind of calling them out when we saw them and took many pictures!
