Istanbul, Turkey - Day 1

Turkey Trip...  We got an early start this morning on our drive to Istanbul. It’s a bit of a culture shock to go from remote archeological sites to a crazy busy city of 15.5 million people!! Today we have seen amazing views of the Marmara Sea, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn with the skyline of Instanbul in the background.

We toured the Hagia Sophia.  This ancient church was built in 537 AD as a Christian cathedral and has since endured numerous changes that have led to present day functioning as a mosque.  There are still some Christian symbols and artwork visible, but much has been draped over.

The Blue mosque is in the same historical area of the European side of Istanbul.  Much of this mosque is undergoing renovations and we could not see the famous blue ceiling.

At the end of the day we toured Topkapi Palace - an enormous grounds with multiple museums.

Tonight we are feeling extremely tired for the first time - must be almost time to come home!  We do our PCR test in the morning, get a look at the Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar and a couple of Christian churches.  Next day is the flight home.  Missing you all and pray Gods blessings to everyone.
