Minoans - 2000BC
The last day in Crete - we have all enjoyed our time here. Quieter, less crowded than Malta, pace is slower.
This morning we visited the archeological site of the Minoan Palace of Knossos. The first Minoan palace period was 2000 BC. The second palace period dates to approx 1750 BC and would be the time of Jacob extending into the period of the judges in the Bible. Minoans traded with all of the culture in the Mediterranean and near east.
Everything we saw at the palace coincided with what we learned at the Heraklion Archeological museum yesterday. Today we were able to see where those artifacts were found in the palace grounds. There are numerous other Minoan palaces in Crete, but Knossos is the gem.
Now we are at the Heraklion airport (MUCH calmer than Malta I’m happy to say) waiting for a flight to Athens to catch the overnight boat to Patmos. We’ll post some pics from the boat. We won’t arrive at Patmos until 1:30 am tomorrow!
