Movember

In July 2023 I needed to have my prostate out due to cancer. It was a successful surgery. But the recovery has been difficult, has involved some complications and some life style adjustments (I know where every bathroom is all the time)!

Since my surgery I have heard so many stories of lives touched by cancer and men who “had no idea.” This is something we should be aware of guys! (or women who have men in their lives and want to keep them around).

I am not becoming spokesperson or raising funds, but…. Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health."

Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, it encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Using the moustache as the driving symbol of the month, Movember focuses on the three key areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

I, of course, already have a beard and mustache and will not be growing it out because no one likes a “unkept looking pastor” or drone operator.

Think about it. Bring it up to your doctor!
