For years I have driven by this barn and watched it slowly be defeated by nature.
There is something about old barns that captures our senses. Well kept or falling down, weathered with time or freshly painted. Driving in Minnesota through agricultural areas and coming upon an old red barn, whether it be situated on a carpet of green grass with a blue sky, or standing as a burst of color on a snowy white day it can be beautiful. A barn is reminiscent of all things natural or organic and is an icon of a time of simplicity.
For many a barn is more than a structure; it is a symbol of hard work, and endurance.
The barns that are falling down were almost all built in the days before farmers could buy pressure treated lumber. It takes money and effort to tear them down and sometimes farmers aren’t willing to spent either to tear them down and just leave them be until they fall.
