What makes this site unique is that it holds the distinction of being one of the earliest Russian Orthodox churches in Minneapolis, St. Mary’s was established in 1887 as an eastern-rite Catholic community by Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants. In 1971, the parish was raised to Cathedral status (in the church world - this is a big deal). What ever your beliefs might be there is no denying the ornate beauty of this beautiful and historic place. Gilded iconography, gorgeous stained glass, the dome - an architectural masterpiece! To top it off, as I was preparing to get some drone shots of the property the priest walked by and offered to take me inside! We had a great conversation!
