Beersheba. Ein Gedi. Wilderness of Zin. Aqaba, Jordan
Our day was spent driving to Aqaba, Jordon. Along the way we stopped at the archeological excavations at Beersheba (one of the sites of Abraham’s wells). Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are all recorded in the Bible as being in Beersheba at various times.
We then drove through the Wilderness of Zin - where Moses went when he left Egypt. We hiked in the Ein Gedi nature reserve and heard about the 40 yrs “wandering” of the Israelites.
We crossed the border into Jordon and checked into our hotel. The border crossing was a little nerve wracking… young men in T shirts and machine guns. The area was stark - rolled barbed wire and “no-man’s land” looking terrain. We were all very quiet and serious through this process!! In the evening we walked down to Aqaba Bay on the Red Sea. There were local families sitting on blankets on the beach, hookah pipes lit and glowing. The lights of Elat, Israel were beautiful across the bay. We were almost too excited to sleep thinking of our visit to Petra the next day!.
