Petra

It was a 2 hours bus ride from our hotel in Aqaba to the site of Petra.  We have a Jordanian bus driver, our guide, and a mandatory Jordanian guide and a mandatory Jordanian police officer!

Petra is an ancient city that fits in the time frame of the Israelites’ wandering in the desert, Aaron’s tomb, major trade route and hub. Petra is believed to have been built by the Nabataeans. It is speculated Paul might have lived here immediately following his conversion to Christianity.  It is incredible in size, detail and skill for people of that time (no power tools). The red and patterned rock walls of the caves and carved monuments are stunning. The first site of the Treasury as you come to the end of the Siq is every bit as exciting as it was in Raider’s of the Lost Ark!

We ended our day on a super touristy bus ride through Aqaba, Jordan.
