Cappadocia

We spent the day visiting various sites in the Cappadocia region of Turkey.  The Red River is the longest River in Turkey and runs through this region and out to the Black Sea.  Cappadocia is famous for its unusual rock formations - fairy chimneys - that are a result of ancient volcanic activity and erosion.  These formations have been used to carve incredible caves for dwellings / churches / monasteries and even entire cities.  During times of persecution, the early Christian church in this region utilized these caves to evade their persecutors and continue their Christian communities.

It was a lot of hiking and a busy full day.  And I included a picture of supper - if you ever get a chance to try Sutlac - sweet milky rice pudding carmelized on top.
