St. John’s Bible - St. John’s Abbey Collegeville Minnesota

The Saint John’s Bible, St John’s Abbey Collegeville, Minnesota.   For years I have wanted to stop at St. John’s to see the St John’s Bible.  If you have not been, it is worth the trip!  It is stunningly beautiful.  And seeing how it was made, the paper and tools was very fun.  My pictures do not do it justice.  The size of the page is almost 16x25 inches.  The colors are intense.  The gold leaf makes everything really come alive on the page.  The script is done by hand.    It’s amazing.  I love the scriptures and what a joy it would be to have a copy of this - it is art and the Word!   I also had the absolute joy of meeting the curator of the rare book room who had serval manuscripts of different ancient texts out.   His knowledge and attention to detail was very impressive.  From thier website:  “In 1998, Saint John’s Abbey and University commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible. We invite you to explore this work of art that unites an ancient Benedictine tradition with the technology and vision of today, illuminating the Word of God for a new millennium.”
